The medium dark scent includes a full bodied profile that just touches the line of smelling over sweet. Its light and fluffy aroma lacks boldness but makes you believe the chocolate is smooth before it even enters your mouth.
The bar is very soft and has a low melting point which speaks to its level of cocoa butter. It has a light snap with no splintering or crumbling, and an almost chewy consistency. The chocolate is well tempered to achieve it's silky smooth texture and has a fantastic consistency remaining firm and thick as it melts but can become pasty. Progress is lost at the last moment as the texture suddenly becomes average.
Looks can be deceiving, and Dove Silky Smooth Dark Chocolate is no exception as the cocoa content comes on immediately stronger than expected from the smell, along with faint hints of milk chocolate flavor. And there doesn't seem to be much more to it. The chocolate remains simple and can be enjoyed equally at any speed.
Aside from the texture, the best feature of Dove's chocolate bar is that inside the normal sized package are three individually wrapped servings which is fantastic. It helps promote self control by keeping each serving fresh which takes away the excuse of eating an entire bar "before it goes bad". Of course we have totally not-ever used a thinly veiled excuse like that before, we are talking about a friend.
